7. In the Reading Room: Consultation and Return of the Requested Archival Records

Reading Room Regulations

To protect the archival records and ensure a pleasant working environment, visitors are asked to observe the following rules:

  • Visitors are required to store coats and bags in the lockers provided before entering the Reading Room.
  • Food and drinks are not permitted in the Reading Room.
  • Please avoid loud conversations.
  • Visitors may use pencils and laptops only while working in the Reading Room.

Photography in the Reading Room: Rules and Conditions

If a green marker flag is attached to the archival material, it may be photographed without flash. Supporting aids such as book cushions (wedge supports) and lead weights (document snakes) must be used when required and will be gladly provided by archive staff.

Return of Archival Records

Once you have completed your work with the archival materials, they must be returned by handing them to a member of staff. If you would like to consult the records again on another day, you can indicate this before returning them by placing a yellow marker flag, available at the Reading Room desk, in the records. In this case, the archival materials will be set aside for you and do not need to be requested again.
